  Kia Tutahi-Standing Together Relationship Agreement: Release of draft for consultation - released 9 August 2010
  The Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector has directed the OCVS to post the following Cabinet Committee paper and minute on our website. These papers are released consistent with the Official Information Act 1982. Before publication, the documents were reviewed - consistent with the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982 (Part 1, Section 9 [2] f, g & h) for the withholding of information - however no deletions were required.

    This paper seeks agreement to release the draft Kia Tutahi-Standing Together Relationship Agreement between the Communities of Aotearoa New Zealand and the Government for public consultation.

  The Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector has directed the OCVS to post the following Cabinet paper and minute on our website. These papers are released consistent with the Official Information Act 1982.     This paper proposes a programme of actions to strengthen government engagement with citizens and communities. The programme of action is in response to a report by the Association of Non-Governmental Organisations of Aotearoa (ANGOA) and a report by the Building Better Government Engagement reference group. The paper notes that a relationship agreement could include a joint vision for working together, respective roles and responsibilities, and commitments from both sides.

    Minute of Decision of Cabinet: Government Commitment to Building Strong Community Relationships.
    Following reference from the Cabinet Social Policy Committee (SOC), Cabinet:
    • agreed that the national Community-Government Forum in November 2009 will consider development of a Relationship Agreement to replace the 2001 Statement of Government Intentions for an Improved Community-Government Relationship
    • agreed that the Office for the Community and Voluntary Sector, assisted by the State Services Commission and Te Puni Kokiri, and in consultation with the Treasury and Office of the Auditor-General, will assess how community relationships can be included in wider work around improving and measuring government performance by 30 November 2010
    • agreed that the Office for the Community and Voluntary Sector and Cabinet Office work to clarify guidance in the CabGuide regarding consultation with community and voluntary organisations on policy proposals

The OCVS produces an electronic e-newsletter periodically (approx every 6-8 weeks). This e-news includes updates on OCVS activities as well as news, publications and events relevant to the community and government sectors.

If you wish to be added to the OCVS distribution list for this e-newsletter and other regular communications, send an email to: ocvs@msd.govt.nz with your name and postal address.

The OCVS e-news is sent to approximately 11,450 unique e-mail addresses. Recipients include 1,400 people in 940 social service non-government organisations, 1,411 people in 984 community health groups, 71 community groups involved in arts and heritage, 182 sport and recreation bodies, 373 groups involved with Maori, 65 organisations working with Pasifika peoples and 85 with ethnic communities, 499 groups interested in youth and 815 in disability, 378 government or philanthropic funders and 1,720 state servants in 404 state sector agencies, crown entities, state schools and tertiary institutions.

A printed newsletter called OCVS News was produced until mid-2007, when the Ministry of Social Development introduced a new flagship publication called Rise magazine.
