Funding for the sector
The OCVS provides good practice guidance to government agencies on how funding should be provided to non-profit organisations. The OCVS does not fund non-profit organisations.

The following grants and funds are also available:
- Lottery Grants
Lottery Grants are available for different types of projects and services which include grants for projects that enable or encourage community self-reliance, capacity building and stability, opportunities for social, civil or cultural participation and reducing or removing barriers to such participation.

Administered within the Department of Internal Affairs, there are seven community grants or funding schemes to support local initiatives, community services and community-based youth development.

The Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) supports community leaders to run new and innovative social development projects that will make a positive and measurable difference to their communities.

Enterprising Communities grants help community organisations design and implement projects that will create skills and opportunities for people finding it hard to get jobs.

As part of the Digital Strategy, the government is providing $20.7 million to enable communities to identify and develop initiatives to address their own ICT needs in partnership with business and/or government. The fund will support local partnerships to develop ICT capabilities, address issues of confidence in using ICT, or strengthen community projects through the use of ICT, and create and digitise distinctive and valuable New Zealand content and harness innovation in design and content.
